Last night, Mom and I headed down to Calgary for an information-type event at the Wycliffe office. It started off with an ethnic meal we ate with our hands (well, hand - in this particular culture, you only use your right hand to eat with because your left hand is what you use for certain "unclean" activities), and continued on with video clips, illustrations, and testimonies about the different projects taken on by the organization and its partners. Just being there with the group, hearing about languages and translation and God's Word, really filled me with joy and excitement! It was great to have had the opportunity to connect with that community before setting out on my journey. It reminded me of the greater picture at work, and the importance of feeling confident in God's calling. I know that this mission is what God has called me to for this point in time, and I go with God's blessing and strength.
Things have also been moving forward with my application for studying at Trinity Western University. They talked about this center a lot last night because CanIL (Canadian Institute of Linguistics) is the main training center for Bible translation in Canada. Wycliffe even published some articles on CanIL in their quarterly magazine, Word Alive. (See for yourself at http://www.wycliffe.ca/wordalive/archive/2005summer/index.html.)
I got word yesterday that I have been accepted to the program! I'm not sure about the details on which courses will transfer over, but I'm believing for the best. I took a step of faith and paid the housing deposit so that I can get priority on selecting my classes. Everything seems so clear right now - God is bringing me to CanIL!
Thanks again for your support! These next few days, pray for the logistics of travel to fall into place. It's only 6 days away!! =)
